What You’ll Need
1 Tube of Refrigerated Biscuit Dough
Cooking Oil
1 cup Granulated Sugar
2 tbsp. Ground Cinnamon
Powdered Sugar
Preparation
1. Light a fire in your X Series fire pit and attach the Outpost adjustable grill.
2. Add oil to a cast-iron skillet or dutch oven and place on the Outpost grill over low heat.
3. Open and separate the biscuits and mold them into donut shapes. Don’t worry about making them too thin, they will expand while cooking.
4. Once your oil reaches 350°F, you’re ready to fry the donuts.
Live-Fire Cooking Pro Tip: If your oil is too hot, swivel the Outpost grill to the outside of the fire pit and add room temperature oil to cool it down.
5. Carefully place the donuts into the oil and cook for about 3-5 minutes or until each side is a golden brown.
6. While your donuts are frying, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl.
7. Once the donuts are fully cooked, carefully remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel or plate to drain any excess liquid.
Live-Fire Cooking Pro Tip: The pros to over-the-fire cooking are endless, but this campfire donut recipe lets you fry outside so you can avoid the lingering smell of oil in the kitchen.
8. While the donuts are still hot, coat them in powdered or cinnamon sugar and they're ready to serve.
Enjoy these campfire donuts while they’re hot for a melt in your mouth pastry. “It’s like the texture of a funnel cake with the decadence of a beautiful donut” Scott describes in the video above. Make this treat over the upcoming weekend and let it become your family tradition. Happy donut making!
